ISREAL/USA, 27 September 2022: GlobalX, a Miami-based aircraft charter and cargo company, signed a letter of intent to purchase 50 Eviation Alice aircraft. Delivery is tentatively scheduled to begin in 2027.
Aircraft with zero carbon emissions
Designed around electric propulsion, the Alice model from Eviation is one of the greenest passenger aircraft ever built.
In comparison to other similar-sized aircraft, the aircraft emits zero carbon emissions and greatly reduces noise and operating expenses. It is propelled by two MaginX Magni650 electric motors, the top-selling electric aircraft motor manufacturer in the world.
The charter operator’s major markets of Florida, the Bahamas, and the Caribbean will now have more trips available thanks to these nine-passenger aircraft.
Eco-friendly charters
The agreement is seen as a way for both businesses to encourage more environmentally friendly flying and cut down on carbon emissions. Before moving further south, GlobalX wants to start using the plane for charter flights in Florida, according to Ed Wegel, the chairman and CEO of GlobalX.
Operating flights
GlobalX started carrying passengers in August of last year and currently flies seven A320-series planes to the Americas, the Caribbean, and Latin America.
Additionally, the company has 15 A321 freighters that are leased and will start carrying cargo in the fourth quarter.
Prior consent
GlobalX and Eve UAM signed a letter of intent (LOI) in March to purchase 200 eVTOLs. It declared that it would operate these planes in Florida on charter flights.
The Alice is projected to arrive one year later, in 2026, than the earliest aircraft. The airline has not stated whether the earlier LOI with Eve has changed as a result of this most recent LOI.
The nascent startup’s business strategy of flying across the Gulf of Mexico will be enhanced by these additional charter offerings. The airline has been operating Airbus A320 passenger aircraft ever since it began operating for passengers in August 2021.
With its fleet of 15 leased A321 cargo aircraft, it plans to start a cargo business later this year. While it waits for the delivery of the electric aircraft, it plans to keep expanding its business.
