USA, 30 September 2022: Elon Musk claims that the Tesla Cybertruck will be “waterproof enough” to cross rivers and function briefly as a boat.
Cybertruck waterproof enough
In a tweet, the CEO of Tesla stated:
A Cybertruck should be able to travel across the water between SpaceX‘s Starbase and South Padre Island in Texas, according to Musk.
The shortest distance in the Brazos Santiago Pass, which divides the island from where Starbase is located, is 360 metres (1,100 feet), hence the Cybertruck would have to be able to get there.
It’s not the first time Musk has mentioned Tesla cars having a boat-like function.
After witnessing a Tesla Model S driving (or swimming) through a flooded tunnel a few years back, the CEO commented that the vehicle could nearly be used as a boat, however it was made plain that doing so wasn’t advised.
Earlier prediction
Apparently, he predicted that a Cybertruck could be converted into a boat in 2020, and some individuals plan to go even further.
The development of a kit that can swiftly convert a Cybertruck into a catamaran was previously reported by a local news.
However, it currently appears that the Cybertruck will have an undercarriage that is “waterproof enough” to be able to float, and with the help of the wheels’ propulsion, users should be able to move gently through calm water.
It will please those looking forward to the Cybertruck as an off-road vehicle that they shouldn’t be alarmed by some water.
Cybertruck production
The Gigafactory Texas is scheduled to start producing the Tesla Cybertruck in the middle of 2023.
