SWEDEN, 5 October 2022: Volvo Trucks just unveiled a brand-new, all electric rear axle. The new e-axle, according to the company, provides even longer range for Volvo’s battery-powered vehicles by making room for additional batteries.
IAA Trade Show
The new e-axle, displayed at the IAA trade show in Hannover, Germany, allows the truck to have even more batteries by fusing the transmission and electric motors into the back axle.
Production to begin soon
In a few years, Volvo Trucks will begin producing cab-over engine trucks with the new e-axle in large quantities.
According to Volvo Trucks, it has a three-pronged strategy to achieve zero emissions: combustion engines that operate on renewable fuels like biogas, HVO, or even green hydrogen; battery electric vehicles; and fuel cell electric vehicles.
Market leader in Europe
With about 99,000 units sold, Europe was the Volvo truck manufacturer’s largest market. In 2021, the Volvo Group shipped over 202,500 trucks worldwide under the Mack, UD Trucks, and Renault Trucks brands. With approximately 122,500 units delivered in 2021 alone, the Volvo brand carries the majority of the group’s deliveries at nearly 60.5 percent, as per statista research report.
Comments
Jessica Sandström, SvP Global Product Management at Volvo Trucks said, “We will continue with our versatile battery electric trucks that are already in production. They can currently cover a wide range of transport assignments. In a few years, we will add this new rear e-axle for customers covering longer routes than today.”
“Different technical solutions are needed to tackle climate change, since the availability of energy and fuel infrastructure differs between countries and regions and also between different transport assignments,” Jessica added.
