HOUSTON, 24 June 2023: Nauticus Robotics Inc, a developer of autonomous robots using artificial intelligence for data collection and intervention services for the ocean industries, has been awarded a contract by Petrobras to deploy its Aquanaut autonomous subsea robot in Brazil.
The contract is for approximately two months of subsea inspection time and is one of the largest awarded contracts of its kind to date worldwide. The contract leads to potential market worth over USD 100m per year.
Nauticus Aquanaut
The Aquanaut is a fully electric robot that carries an array of multi-spectral perception sensors that allow it to detect, classify, inspect, and act upon subsea infrastructure using its pair of manipulators without direct operator control. This method provides significant cost and greenhouse gas emissions reductions over conventional methods.
The contract with Petrobras is a major win for Nauticus and validates the company’s technology as a leading solution for autonomous subsea inspection. It also expands Nauticus’ international presence to South America with a leading operator.
“This contract is a major milestone for Nauticus,” said Nicolaus Radford, CEO of Nauticus. “It is a testament to the state-of-the-art technologies of our autonomous robots and our ability to meet the needs of our customers. We are excited to deploy the Aquanaut in Brazil and to help Petrobras to improve the safety and efficiency of its offshore operations.”
Petrobras is one of the world’s largest and most active offshore operators, managing 57 platforms, ten thousand miles of oil and gas pipelines, and producing 2.6 million barrels of oil equivalent per day. The company is committed to operating at low cost and with a low carbon footprint, and the Aquanaut is a key part of its strategy to achieve these goals.
The contract with Petrobras is a significant win for Nauticus and is a major step forward for the company’s growth plans. It validates the company’s technology and expands its international presence. Nauticus is well-positioned to continue to grow its business and to capture a significant share of the growing market for autonomous subsea inspection.
