JAPAN, 28 June 2023: TIER IV, a leader in open-source autonomous driving (AD) technology, and Tonox, a Japanese manufacturer of specialized vehicles, have announced a partnership to accelerate the production of white-label electric vehicles (EVs) designed to be extensible with AD systems.
White-label EVs
The collaboration aims to lay the foundation for future mass production of AD-enabled EVs. Tonox will modify white-label EVs at its factory in Hiratsuka City, Japan, expanding their capabilities with drive-by-wire and redundancy systems. This will allow TIER IV to deliver AD-enabled EVs to customers more quickly and efficiently.
Tonox has extensive experience in designing and manufacturing special-purpose vehicles for government agencies and various industries. The company has a deep expertise in providing vehicle modifications, parts, electrical equipment outfitting, and technical capabilities to meet unique specifications. It’s manufacturing facility has a site area of 46,000 square meters and an annual production capacity of over 3,000 units.
TIER IV’s “L4 Custom Design Guidelines” provide a comprehensive set of requirements for the design and development of AD-enabled vehicles. These guidelines ensure that AD-enabled vehicles are safe, reliable, and upgradable.
The partnership between TIER IV and Tonox is a significant step forward in the development of AD-enabled vehicles. The collaboration will help to accelerate the production of AD-enabled EVs and make them more widely available.
