BOSTON, 2 August 2023: RecycLiCo Battery Materials Inc (RecycLiCo) and Nanoramic Laboratories (Nanoramic) have announced a strategic collaboration to optimize the life cycle of lithium-ion batteries. The partnership aims to create an efficient and sustainable battery supply chain by combining the unique materials and technologies of both companies.

Testing High-Performance Cathode Electrodes

As part of the collaboration, Nanoramic will provide its discarded Neocarbonix lithium-ion battery cathode electrodes. These electrodes are known for their high-performance and cost-effective nanocarbon mesh binding structure. RecycLiCo will test these electrodes with its proprietary lithium-ion battery recycling process, which has demonstrated up to 99% extraction of lithium, nickel, manganese, and cobalt from conventional waste cathode materials. The goal is to achieve mutual recognition of integrating Nanoramic and RecycLiCo technologies in commercial operations.

Sustainability and “Closing the Loop”

Nanoramic’s electrodes are NMP-free and PVDF-free, offering a solution to potential bans on per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in lithium-ion batteries. The collaboration aims to achieve a closed-loop system by converting waste cathodes into valuable battery-grade materials using RecycLiCo’s expertise and returning the recycled product back to Nanoramic for cell production and further electrochemical analysis.

John Cooley’s Perspective

RecycLiCo Nanoramic Laboratories

John Cooley, the Founder of Nanoramic, expressed the significance of sustainability in the company’s mission. The partnership with RecycLiCo is seen as a critical step in reducing the overall impact of battery manufacturing and usage. Nanoramic’s focus on transformative technologies that are both sustainable and capable of improving battery performance, charging speed, and cost will play a pivotal role in encouraging more people to adopt electric vehicles.

Zarko Meseldzija’s Statement

Zarko Meseldzija, the CEO of RecycLiCo, emphasized the company’s commitment to being at the forefront of battery recycling technology. Working with next-generation cathode materials in a closed-loop, sustainable process positions RecycLiCo as a leader in the industry. The collaboration with Nanoramic, a company with a similar dedication to sustainability, reinforces their joint mission of minimizing environmental impact and promoting sustainable practices in the battery industry.

Conclusion

The collaboration between RecycLiCo and Nanoramic Laboratories marks a significant milestone in the pursuit of sustainable lithium-ion battery recycling. By combining their expertise and technologies, both companies are striving to create an efficient battery supply chain that reduces environmental impact and advances the adoption of electric vehicles. This partnership represents a crucial step forward in the journey towards a greener and more sustainable future for the battery industry.
