Belgium-based battery materials producer Umicore has signed mid-to-long-term supply agreements for precursor cathode active materials (pCAM) with CNGR, a Chinese battery materials company, and Eco&Dream (E&D), a South Korea-based pCAM supplier, according to a 27 March press release from Umicore.
Umicore will use the materials for EV battery contracts in North America and Asia.
CNGR’s JV COBCO with Morocco-based AL MADA has commissioned pCAM lines in Jorf Lasfar, with Umicore set to begin contracting volumes in 2026, the release said.
E&D has already started supplying from its new Saemangeum plant, which complements its existing site in Cheongju, the release noted.
The deals support Umicore’s sourcing strategy and add to its in-house pCAM capacity of 20,000 tonnes in Finland and 80,000 tonnes in China. The company also manufactures cathode active materials.
