Samsung SDI [KRX: 006400] has started production of 46-series cylindrical batteries and shipped its first 4695 modules from its Vietnam subsidiary to a US micro-mobility customer, according to a press release from the Korean battery manufacturer.
Samsung SDI produces the 4695 cells at its Cheonan plant and assembles them into modules in Vietnam. The 46-series lineup includes four sizes: 4680, 4695, 46100 and 46120, the release said.
The company has adopted a tabless design and uses high-nickel NCA cathodes and silicon-carbon nanocomposite anodes to improve energy density and safety, the release added.
Samsung SDI revealed the range at InterBattery 2025 and expects to begin mass production in Q1 2025.
