UTTAR PRADESH, 26 September 2022: The Uttar Pradesh government has drafted an Electric Vehicle Policy – 2022-2027, aiming to transition the state to electric vehicles by 2030.
EV manufacturing hub
The primary goal of the EV policy is to establish the state as a manufacturing hub for electric vehicles, batteries, and related products on a global scale. Additionally, the state needs to develop an eco-friendly atmosphere.
The EV policy will apply to all types of EVs, including battery-electric cars, strong hybrid electric vehicles, plug-in hybrid electric vehicles, EV supply equipment, on-board chargers, vehicle control units, and battery management systems.
Registration exemption
The registration of electric vehicles and road tax will be completely exempt for the first three years that the EV policy is in effect. In the fourth and fifth years following that, there will be a 50% relaxation.
In the case of 2-wheeler electric vehicles, 15 percent (up to INR 5000) off the car’s manufacturer’s suggested retail price will be offered for one year after the policy is issued.
On the purchase of two- or four-wheeled electric vehicles, as well as e-buses, a 15% rebate will be offered, and a 100% reduction on their registration and road tax in the state.
Budget allocation
A significant budget allocation of INR 100 crore would be made to exempt 2 lakh two-wheeler electric vehicles.
The policy will encourage investment of over INR 50,000 crore and provide direct and indirect employment for over one million people.
Green Roads
The policy states that EVs will be integrated into both the urban and rural public transportation systems. To facilitate their use, green roads will be designated. These routes will employ e-buses. All government cars will also be converted to electric vehicles by 2030.
On the other hand, government workers will be urged to purchase EVs and will even receive an advance. A Go Electric campaign will also be started to advertise EVs. In order to implement the EV policy, a 12-member empowered committee will be formed and led by the Industrial Development and Infrastructure Commissioner.
EV charging infrastructure
According to the EV policy, charging stations will be set up on expressways at intervals of 25 km and within a 9 km radius in urban areas. Additionally, charging stations will be installed at parking lots, subway stations, bus stops, gas stations, commercial buildings, educational and medical facilities, and shopping malls in urban areas.
It’s important to note that the site for the charging station will be leased for ten years. On the first 2,000 charging stations, a 20% subsidy (up to INR 10 lakh) will be offered.
