NEW DELHI, 10 October 2022: The Delhi Government sets up 1,000 electric vehicle (EV) charging points under its single window service in less than a year.

Under this facility, any resident of Delhi can request installation of a charger using an online portal or by calling.

Subsidized cost: INR 2,500

The Delhi EV policy stipulates that the first 30,000 slow-charging terminals will receive a subsidy of Rs 6,000 each. After deducting INR 6,000, the user’s total cost will include the cost of an EV charger, installation, and three years of maintenance. After subsidies, the cost of these EV chargers is as low as INR 2,500.

RWAs established 59%

  • 59 per cent of EV chargers have been installed by Resident Welfare Associations
  • 15 per cent have been set up on office premises and 13 per cent at e-rickshaw parking areas

BSES Rajdhani Power Limited (BSES), BSES Yamuna Power Limited (BYPL), and Tata Power Delhi Distribution Limited (TPDDL) have each built up to 682 charging stations at 315 places, 150 points at 70 locations, and 168 points at 50 locations, respectively.

According to a statement from the Delhi Government, up to 59 percent of these chargers have been installed by Resident Welfare Associations, 15 percent have been installed on office property, and 13 percent are located in parking places for e-rickshaws. Additionally, it stated that it would invest INR 60 lakh on these 1,000 charging outlets as a subsidy.

Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot stated, “Delhi plans to install 18,000 charging points in the next three years, making it easier for the citizens of Delhi to opt for an electric vehicle instead of an internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicle,” asserting that the Delhi Government is committed to providing a network of charging facilities within 3 km travel from anywhere in Delhi. Delhi wants one new electric vehicle for every four that are purchased by the end of 2024.

Single Window Facility

The Delhi Government introduced a single window facility in November 2021 for the installation of EV chargers in semi-private and private places in Delhi.

The Dialogue and Development Commission of Delhi stated in its statement that using the service, any citizen of Delhi can request installation of a charger from empanelled vendors on his/her premises either through the online portal of a distribution business or by making a phone call.
