BENGALURU, 12 October 2022: Bharat Electronics Ltd (BEL), a Navratna Defense PSU, and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd (HPCL), a Maharatna PSU, have collaborated to install a fast electric vehicle (EV) charging station at the HPCL Retail Outlet at Amravati Enclave near Pinjore on the Chandigarh-Shimla Highway. Two 25 KW CCS-2 protocol guns make up the charging station.

Inauguration done

The new facility was officially opened by Dinesh Kumar Batra, Chairman and Managing Director of BEL, in the presence of Debashis Chakravarty, Chief General Manager of HPCL, Bhanu Prakash Srivastava, Director (Other Units), Prabha Goyal, General Manager (Panchkula), and other senior management teams from BEL and HPCL.

BEL

The BEL Panchkula Unit is trying to meet India’s international obligation to reduce carbon footprint and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, which would lead to a decrease in the importation of fossil fuels.

In addition to developing EV charging infrastructure in cities and on roads, BEL has locally produced EV Slow and Fast Chargers. The company has been given the assignment by the Ministry of Heavy Industries to set up EV charging infrastructure on four expressways and motorways.

BEL’s core business, defence, has historically provided about 80 percent of the company’s yearly sales revenue. The Energy Storage solutions for Electric Vehicles (Li-ion & Fuel Cells, Charging Stations, etc.) being one of them, BEL has been consistently investigating diversification into related non-defence fields.

Comments

Dinesh Kumar Batra, CMD, BEL said, “BEL is known to be an eco-friendly company. We have clean and green campuses at all our Units across the country. Renewable energy from BEL’s captive solar and wind power plants contribute to around 49.36 per cent of our total energy consumption.”

“BEL is diversifying into many areas of non-defence and Energy Storage products is one such area we are keenly focussing on. We fully endorse the Government’s green energy mission, and the setting of this EV charging station is one more step in that direction,” Dinesh added.

Debashis Chakravarty, Chief General Manager, HPCL stated that, “HPCL is focused on expansion of the business profile with greater presence in the clean energy segment. We are working towards making our retail outlets multi fuel, so that mobility solutions can be provided for whichever vehicles customers choose to drive. More than 1,100 EV charging stations have already been set up in our 20,000 plus outlets across India.”
