Tesla Superchargers
This partnership will provide Ford EV customers with access to over 12,000 Tesla Superchargers across the United States and Canada, effectively doubling the number of fast-chargers available to Ford EV owners starting in the spring of 2024.
To enable Ford EVs with the Combined Charging System (CCS) port, such as the F-150 Lightning, Mustang Mach-E, and E-Transit, to access Tesla’s V3 Superchargers, Tesla has developed an adapter. However, starting in 2025, Ford plans to equip its future EVs with the NACS charge port, eliminating the need for an adapter and providing direct access to Tesla Superchargers.
Jim Farley, Ford’s president and CEO, expressed his excitement about the agreement, stating that it would provide Ford customers with unprecedented access to the largest network of fast-chargers in North America. The partnership is seen as a crucial step in facilitating Ford’s growth as an EV brand. As Ford ramps up production of its popular EV models like the Mustang Mach-E and F-150 Lightning, and prepares to launch a series of next-generation EVs from 2025 onwards, widespread access to fast-charging is considered vital.
Rebecca Tinucci, Tesla’s senior director of charging infrastructure, highlighted Tesla’s decade-long effort in building an industry-leading Charging Network, providing freedom of travel and charging confidence for Tesla owners. Tinucci expressed excitement about welcoming Ford owners and other electric vehicle users with the NACS (North American Charging Standard) to Tesla’s thousands of Superchargers across North America.
Marin Gjaja, chief customer officer of Ford Model e, commended Tesla for creating a large, reliable, and efficient charging system. Gjaja stated that this collaboration would benefit customers and overall EV adoption, as Tesla’s Supercharger network is known for its excellent reliability, while the NACS plug is smaller and lighter, offering a superior customer experience.
Ford’s BlueOval Charge Network
In addition to the Tesla Superchargers, Ford’s BlueOval Charge Network already comprises over 84,000 public chargers, including access to more than 10,000 public DC fast-chargers. With the inclusion of over 12,000 Tesla Superchargers, this partnership will create the largest integrated fast-charge network across the United States and Canada. The network aims to significantly reduce charge anxiety for Ford customers by providing automatic routing to the nearest charger and seamless billing through FordPass.
Furthermore, Ford dealerships will be adding approximately 1,800 public-facing fast-chargers and locations to the BlueOval Charge Network by early 2024, further expanding the charging infrastructure available to Ford EV owners.
