PITTSBURGH, 31 May 2023: Coherent Corp. (NYSE: COHR), a leader in laser processing solutions, has unveiled HIGHtactile, a new laser welding head equipped with tactile seam-tracking technology for electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing applications.
The rising demand for EVs has led to increased laser usage in automotive manufacturing, driving advancements in process automation and laser usability.
Coherent has introduced HIGHtactile, a laser processing head featuring an innovative seam-tracking technology, protected by a pending patent, that can be easily configured to perform automated fillet welding and brazing.
HIGHtactile offers exceptional user-friendliness, incorporating a wide array of embedded sensors that streamline various aspects of the welding head. These sensors improve process learning and enable faster laser processing.
Furthermore, HIGHtactile can be tailored for optimal performance in specific applications like steel brazing or aluminum and steel welding, commonly found in body-in-white processes such as trunk lid and roof top brazing. The laser welding head is compatible with various lasers, wire feeders, and process monitoring systems.
