GM, Samsung to boost America’s EV market with new battery cell plant

DETROIT/SEOUL, 15 June 2023:  General Motors (GM) and Samsung SDI announced recently that they plan to invest more than USD 3bn to build a new battery cell manufacturing plant in the United States. The plant, which is expected to begin operations in 2026, will have an annual production capacity of 30 gigawatt hours (GWh).

The investment is part of GM’s plan to invest USD 27bn in electric vehicles (EVs) and battery technology by 2025. The company aims to launch 30 new EVs and sell one million EVs annually by 2025.
