RALEIGH, 19 July 2023: VinFast, a prominent player in the electric vehicle (EV) market, has announced plans to hold a groundbreaking ceremony for its state-of-the-art EV factory in North Carolina on July 28. This landmark facility will be the first of its kind in North Carolina and will significantly contribute to the availability of EVs in North America, propelling the global green mobility revolution forward.
The cutting-edge manufacturing facility will be situated at the Triangle Innovation Point in Chatham County, North Carolina, spanning an impressive 1,800 acres. In its initial phase, the factory is projected to produce up to 150,000 vehicles per year, comprising two primary sections: electric vehicle production and assembly. Additionally, the complex will accommodate auxiliary supplier businesses, creating a comprehensive and dynamic ecosystem.
Having secured the necessary permits for Phase 1 construction, VinFast’s factory is poised to become a catalyst for job creation, bolstering the local economy with thousands of employment opportunities.
VinFast Auto’s CEO, Madam Le Thi Thu Thuy, expressed the significance of the North Carolina facility, stating, “The manufacturing facility in North Carolina is one of VinFast’s key projects. Once operational, it will serve as our primary source of EVs for the North American market, streamlining production and business operations. We are eager for the factory in Chatham County to advance the clean energy economy in the US and support North Carolina’s green mobility strategy.”
Production at the factory is expected to commence in 2025. VinFast received a substantial USD 1.2bn incentive package from the State of North Carolina for this groundbreaking project, further complemented by crucial financial backing from the City of Sanford, Chatham County, and the Golden Leaf Foundation.
Beyond the manufacturing facility, VinFast is also actively expanding its presence and brand recognition in the US by extending its retail store and service center network and organizing localized test drives and product display events throughout California. These initiatives aim to provide customers with firsthand experiences of VinFast’s cutting-edge EVs, fostering a closer connection between the brand and potential buyers.
