KARNATAKA, 16 September 2022: In Bengaluru, the global oil giant Shell unveiled its first electric vehicle (EV) chargers for India’s two- and four-wheeled vehicle markets. Additionally, it intends to deploy more than 10,000 chargers through the Shell Recharge Stations throughout India by the year 2030.

The company claims that India is the first country where Shell would introduce chargers for the two-wheeler market. Shell Recharge chargers will only ever use green energy, exclusively.

The energy firm intends to install charging stations in Bengaluru throughout its fuel stations located in Yeshwantpur, Marathalli, Old Madras Road, Brookefield, and Kanakpura during the initial phase of its debut.

Shell intends to broaden the reach of its EV charging infrastructure beyond its current retail markets in Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Telangana, Assam, and Andhra Pradesh. Shell will offer specialised charging options at on-the-go venues like Shell gas stations, independent EV hubs, residential charging stations, and destination places.

The company will use direct-current (DC) fast chargers with a 100 kilowatt (KW) or higher rating for on-the-go and standalone EV hubs to enable quick charging and the shortest dwell time.

Through the “Shell Recharge India app,” which is available on both the Android and iOS operating systems, EV users will be able to control these chargers. Customers may use the app to find the closest accessible charger, choose a charging method (by unit, time, or percentage), and then make speedy payments for a hassle-free, dependable EV charging experience.

According to Shell, EV consumers will also be able to see their charging status in real-time. The business claims to offer a broad line of hardware solutions for various situations, including those involving:

  • Strategy for simultaneous charging and cable connector arrangement to maximise the use of the equipment for supplying electric vehicles and boost investment effectiveness.
  • Upgrade-enabling characteristics are made possible via modular designs.
  • Higher uptime is ensured by excellence in operation and reliability.

“Being a solution-driven and customer-centric organisation, we have developed a world-class offering for the electric-mobility customers drawing upon our global expertise and capabilities.” Sanjay Varkey, Director, Shell Mobility India, said.

“The Shell Recharge proposition is based on unique insights that we picked up in our research and global experience. This enables us to provide safe, green, and integrated mobility solutions to our customers. We are excited to contribute to the electrification of mobility in India by rolling out the Shell Recharge network and look forward to serve the rapidly evolving needs of our customers,” Varkey added.
