WEST BENGAL, 19 October 2022: The West Bengal State Electricity Distribution Company Ltd (WBSEDCL) is looking for a public-private partnership (PPP) to construct EV charging stations to boost e-mobility in the area.
In accordance with West Bengal’s Electric Vehicle Policy 2021 (No: 189-POW-2021, date: 3 June 2021), the state aims to have 10 lakh EVs, combined across all vehicle segments, during the policy’s implementation and to be the best state for electric mobility penetration by 2030.
The deployment of EVs will be significantly impacted by the charging infrastructure. By order dated 28.07.2022, the West Bengal Electricity Regularity Commission has also released a promotional tariff for electric vehicle charging stations at this point.
WBSEDCL State Nodal Agency
In accordance with notification no. 51-PO/O/CIII/4M-27/2017 dated 12.03.2019, WBSEDCL has been designated as the “State Nodal Agency” for setting up charging infrastructure for electric vehicles in the state of West Bengal.
WBSEDCL intends to receive proposals for “Supply, Installation, Operation, and Management of Electric Vehicle Charging Station/Battery Swapping Stations at Their Cost at WBSEDCL’S Own Land” from qualified investors.
The 205 individual locations (on WBSEDCL-owned land) are up for bid.
- 40 station location along the National Highway (NH)
- a site other than National Highway (NH) -165 stations
The administration intends to build 10,000 EV charging or battery-swapping stations across the state.
On the outskirts of Kolkata, the New Town administration has set up 30 charging stations, and more are being constructed for buses and private cars.
Commissioning Period
Within six months of the site’s transfer, the full assigned Work must be finished and put into service.
Annual fee for EV charging stations
The state’s electrical sector regulator, the West Bengal Electricity Regulatory Commission (WBERC), has set an annual fee of INR 6.98 per unit for EV charging stations.
