JAMMU&KASHMIR, 24 October 2022: An electric vehicle policy committee was recently formed by the Government in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, according to local media reports.

The committee, which is led by the administrative secretary of the department responsible for housing and urban development, will assess the current state of the electric mobility ecosystem throughout the UT of Jammu and Kashmir, with a focus on the twin cities of Jammu and Srinagar.
The committee, which must submit its report within a month, is comprised of the Secretary, Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Department and Director General, Budget; Administrative Secretary PDD; Administrative Secretary, Industries and Commerce Department; Administrative Secretary, Transport Department.
Analyzing incentive schemes
The panel is also responsible for examining the range of incentives that may be offered for the purchase of electric cars, including the conversion of current commercial fleets to an electric configuration.

It will outline the general infrastructure needs for switching to electric mobility, compare similar laws and regulations in adjacent States, and examine issues with road safety related to the use of electric vehicles.
The committee shall make recommendations for policies to support electric vehicle research, innovation, and skill development.
