All-electric cars, also known as battery electric cars or BEVs, plug-in hybrid cars or PHEVs, and hybrid electric cars or HEVs all use electricity to increase driving economy. Despite the fact that some of these vehicles still combine the use of electricity and liquid fuels, these three vehicle types are commonly referred to as electric cars, electric vehicles, or simply EVs in casual contexts. More specifically, plug-in electric cars are another name for BEVs and PHEVs (PEVs).
